스웨덴어로 "O, Store Gud" 라는 제목의 노래인데,
이 노래는 1886년 Pastor Carl Boberg라는 사람이
스웨덴의 서남해안을 여행하던 중에 종교적인 영감을
받아 지은 시를 가사로 했다.
그는 여행 중에 대낮에 갑자기 천둥번개와 비바람을 만나서
잠시 심한 공포에 사로잡히는데, 잠시후 맑아져서 다시
눈부신 햇빛이 나오고 숲에서는 새들의 노래소리가 들려온다.
그는 즉시 그 자리에 무릎 꿇어 전능하신 하나님께 겸허한
기도를 드렸고, 나중에 그 기억을 되살려 9편의 시를 쓴다.
몇 년후 그는 어느 교회 집회에서 자신의 시에 스웨덴의 오랜
민요 선율이 붙어 노래로 불리우는 것을 듣게 된다.
후에 그 가사는 여러 나라 말로 번역되었고, 빌리 그래함
목사의 전도 집회에서 George Beverly Shea에 의해 자주
불리워져서 세계화된 노래다.
